Five ways to reduce heart attack risk by 80 percent.
A 2013 study conducted by researchers at the Karolinska Institutet in Sweden and published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology suggested that five lifestyle changes could reduce heart attack risk by up to 80 percent.

- 1) Not smoking (36 percent risk reduction).
- 2) Eating a diet rich in fruits, vegetables, legumes, nuts, reduced-fat dairy products, whole grains and fish (18 percent reduction).
- 3) Maintaining a waistline of 37 inches or less for men or 35 inches or less for women (12 percent reduction).
- 4) Intake of fewer than two alcoholic drinks for men or one alcoholic drink for women per day (11 percent reduction).
- 5) Moderate daily and weekly exercise routines (3 percent reduction).
